U.S. stocks higher at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average up 1.78%

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Consumer Goods, Technology and Industrials sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 1.78%, while the S&P 500 index added 2.05%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 2.47%.

The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE), which rose 4.68% or 2.81 points to trade at 62.83 at the close. Meanwhile, NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) added 3.21% or 4.21 points to end at 135.50 and American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) was up 2.99% or 8.52 points to 293.74 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which fell 0.67% or 1.37 points to trade at 201.00 at the close. Unitedhealth Group (NYSE:UNH) declined 0.19% or 0.57 points to end at 295.00 and Coca-Cola Co (NYSE:KO) was up 0.01% or 0.01 points to 71.78.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Hologic Inc (NASDAQ:HOLX) which rose 14.54% to 62.17, Deckers Outdoor Corporation (NYSE:DECK) which was up 7.83% to settle at 108.96 and Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) which gained 6.90% to close at 362.75.

The worst performers were Fair Isaac Corporation (NYSE:FICO) which was down 11.26% to 1,503.62 in late trade, VeriSign Inc (NASDAQ:VRSN) which lost 3.68% to settle at 269.48 and AutoZone Inc (NYSE:AZO) which was down 3.42% to 3,695.66 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Wheeler Real Estate Investment Trust Inc (NASDAQ:WHLR) which rose 604.73% to 5.13, Sharplink Gaming Ltd (NASDAQ:SBET) which was up 430.36% to settle at 35.64 and Imunon Inc (NASDAQ:IMNN) which gained 92.25% to close at 2.23.

The worst performers were Rocket Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:RCKT) which was down 62.84% to 2.33 in late trade, Jeffs Brands Ltd Unit (NASDAQ:JFBR) which lost 46.71% to settle at 0.41 and Patriot National Bancorp Inc (NASDAQ:PNBK) which was down 36.48% to 3.43 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 2322 to 467 and 51 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2303 rose and 1034 declined, while 101 ended unchanged.

Shares in Rocket Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:RCKT) fell to all time lows; losing 62.84% or 3.94 to 2.33. Shares in Sharplink Gaming Ltd (NASDAQ:SBET) rose to 52-week highs; rising 430.36% or 28.92 to 35.64. Shares in Jeffs Brands Ltd Unit (NASDAQ:JFBR) fell to all time lows; falling 46.71% or 0.35 to 0.41.

The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 7.78% to 18.97.

Gold Futures for August delivery was down 1.87% or 63.33 to $3,331.17 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.62% or 0.38 to hit $61.15 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.47% or 0.30 to trade at $63.82 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 0.48% to 1.13, while USD/JPY rose 1.04% to 144.32.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.62% at 99.48.
