Investing.com – U.S. stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Technology, Financials and Consumer Goods sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 1.06%, while the S&P 500 index added 1.68%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 2.14%.
The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM), which rose 4.13% or 7.25 points to trade at 182.76 at the close. Meanwhile, Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) added 3.93% or 1.06 points to end at 28.01 and American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) was up 3.90% or 6.15 points to 163.78 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN), which fell 1.12% or 2.60 points to trade at 230.58 at the close. Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA) declined 0.83% or 0.28 points to end at 33.29 and International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM) was down 0.76% or 0.95 points to 124.63.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were First Republic Bank (NYSE:FRC) which rose 27.84% to 39.90, Charles Schwab Corp (NYSE:SCHW) which was up 9.21% to settle at 56.69 and Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ:META) which gained 7.25% to close at 194.02.
The worst performers were United Airlines Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:UAL) which was down 5.37% to 46.21 in late trade, Vornado Realty Trust (NYSE:VNO) which lost 5.23% to settle at 16.21 and Boston Properties Inc (NYSE:BXP) which was down 4.35% to 53.41 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Ainos Inc (NASDAQ:AIMD) which rose 72.00% to 1.29, Sigilon Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:SGTX) which was up 64.84% to settle at 1.16 and MMTEC Inc (NASDAQ:MTC) which gained 38.93% to close at 2.07.
The worst performers were Toro Corp (NASDAQ:TORO) which was down 39.37% to 2.41 in late trade, Oportun Financial Corp (NASDAQ:OPRT) which lost 34.61% to settle at 2.74 and RAPT Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:RAPT) which was down 25.97% to 19.70 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 2285 to 767 and 73 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2367 rose and 1248 declined, while 154 ended unchanged.
Shares in Vornado Realty Trust (NYSE:VNO) fell to 5-year lows; losing 5.23% or 0.89 to 16.21. Shares in Boston Properties Inc (NYSE:BXP) fell to 5-year lows; down 4.35% or 2.43 to 53.41. Shares in Toro Corp (NASDAQ:TORO) fell to all time lows; falling 39.37% or 1.57 to 2.41. Shares in Oportun Financial Corp (NASDAQ:OPRT) fell to all time lows; down 34.61% or 1.45 to 2.74.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 10.52% to 23.73.
Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.43% or 8.20 to $1,908.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 4.44% or 3.32 to hit $71.48 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 0.04% or 0.03 to trade at $77.53 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.01% to 1.07, while USD/JPY fell 0.01% to 134.21.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.07% at 103.25.
