U.S. stocks higher at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average up 1.00%

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Technology, Consumer Services and Industrials sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 1.00%, while the S&P 500 index climbed 1.30%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 2.19%.

The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which rose 5.84% or 1.60 points to trade at 29.00 at the close. Meanwhile, American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) added 4.12% or 6.23 points to end at 157.31 and Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM) was up 2.63% or 5.53 points to 215.44 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:MRK), which fell 1.10% or 1.23 points to trade at 111.07 at the close. The Travelers Companies Inc (NYSE:TRV) declined 0.75% or 1.30 points to end at 172.37 and Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX) was down 0.30% or 0.47 points to 154.09.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Gap Inc (NYSE:GPS) which rose 12.40% to 8.34, Broadcom Inc (NASDAQ:AVGO) which was up 11.52% to settle at 812.73 and Arista Networks (NYSE:ANET) which gained 9.06% to close at 170.34.

The worst performers were Ulta Beauty Inc (NASDAQ:ULTA) which was down 13.37% to 420.27 in late trade, Kroger Company (NYSE:KR) which lost 3.27% to settle at 47.30 and Eversource Energy (NYSE:ES) which was down 3.06% to 68.69 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Verastem Inc (NASDAQ:VSTM) which rose 125.55% to 1.01, Elevation Oncology Inc (NASDAQ:ELEV) which was up 66.78% to settle at 5.02 and Presto Automation Inc (NASDAQ:PRST) which gained 63.93% to close at 3.59.

The worst performers were Canaan Inc (NASDAQ:CAN) which was down 26.74% to 1.89 in late trade, mCloud Technologies Corp (NASDAQ:MCLD) which lost 24.42% to settle at 0.54 and ROC Energy Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:ROC) which was down 23.30% to 8.10 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 2046 to 923 and 89 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2246 rose and 1331 declined, while 152 ended unchanged.

Shares in Broadcom Inc (NASDAQ:AVGO) rose to all time highs; gaining 11.52% or 83.93 to 812.73. Shares in Arista Networks (NYSE:ANET) rose to all time highs; rising 9.06% or 14.15 to 170.34. Shares in Eversource Energy (NYSE:ES) fell to 3-years lows; losing 3.06% or 2.17 to 68.69. Shares in Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM) rose to 52-week highs; rising 2.63% or 5.53 to 215.44. Shares in Canaan Inc (NASDAQ:CAN) fell to 52-week lows; falling 26.74% or 0.69 to 1.89. Shares in ROC Energy Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:ROC) fell to all time lows; losing 23.30% or 2.46 to 8.10.

The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 6.22% to 17.95.

Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.15% or 2.95 to $1,946.65 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 1.34% or 0.96 to hit $72.79 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 1.01% or 0.77 to trade at $77.03 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.02% to 1.07, while USD/JPY rose 0.38% to 140.59.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.04% at 104.14.
