U.S. stocks higher at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average up 0.89%

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Healthcare, Telecoms and Technology sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.89%, while the S&P 500 index climbed 1.00%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 1.24%.
The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH), which rose 8.16% or 18.00 points to trade at 238.59 at the close. Meanwhile, JPMorgan Chase & Co (NYSE:JPM) added 3.01% or 3.51 points to end at 119.96 and Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT) was up 2.06% or 2.65 points to 131.03 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:PG), which fell 2.37% or 2.85 points to trade at 117.20 at the close. Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) declined 0.59% or 2.22 points to end at 370.96 and McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD) was down 0.56% or 1.16 points to 207.22.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Nektar Therapeutics (NASDAQ:NKTR) which rose 8.98% to 17.30, UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH) which was up 8.16% to settle at 238.59 and First Republic Bank (NYSE:FRC) which gained 6.63% to close at 103.62.
The worst performers were Cimarex Energy Co (NYSE:XEC) which was down 2.62% to 43.49 in late trade, Coty Inc (NYSE:COTY) which lost 2.54% to settle at 10.38 and ConAgra Foods Inc (NYSE:CAG) which was down 2.52% to 27.08 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Datasea Inc (NASDAQ:DTSS) which rose 274.48% to 3.34, Relmada Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:RLMD) which was up 155.61% to settle at 28.5 and TDH Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:PETZ) which gained 78.40% to close at 2.00.
The worst performers were Synthesis Energy Systems Inc (NASDAQ:SES) which was down 51.03% to 9.5500 in late trade, NF Energy Saving Corp (NASDAQ:BIMI) which lost 35.33% to settle at 5.8200 and Ideal Power Inc (NASDAQ:IPWR) which was down 21.05% to 2.250 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1871 to 997 and 79 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1915 rose and 726 declined, while 74 ended unchanged.
Shares in Relmada Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:RLMD) rose to 5-year highs; up 155.61% or 17.4 to 28.5. Shares in TDH Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:PETZ) rose to 52-week highs; rising 78.40% or 0.88 to 2.00.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 7.07% to 13.54 a new 1-month low.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.86% or 12.95 to $1484.65 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 1.27% or 0.68 to hit $52.91 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.03% or 0.02 to trade at $58.86 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.01% to 1.1032, while USD/JPY rose 0.01% to 108.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.16% at 98.015.
