Investing.com – U.S. stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Basic Materials, Oil & Gas and Technology sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.29% to hit a new all time high, while the S&P 500 index climbed 0.16%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 0.24%.
The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT), which rose 4.12% or 8.49 points to trade at 214.37 at the close. Meanwhile, UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH) added 1.67% or 7.60 points to end at 463.41 and Visa Inc Class A (NYSE:V) was up 1.65% or 3.57 points to 220.24 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE), which fell 3.06% or 5.43 points to trade at 172.08 at the close. Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN) declined 1.20% or 2.57 points to end at 211.20 and Coca-Cola Co (NYSE:KO) was down 0.98% or 0.56 points to 56.28.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Coty Inc (NYSE:COTY) which rose 13.94% to 10.585, Advanced Micro Devices Inc (NASDAQ:AMD) which was up 11.05% to settle at 151.41 and Freeport-McMoran Copper & Gold Inc (NYSE:FCX) which gained 6.99% to close at 39.63.
The worst performers were Kimco Realty Corporation (NYSE:KIM) which was down 4.58% to 23.23 in late trade, The AES Corporation (NYSE:AES) which lost 4.54% to settle at 23.86 and Federal Realty Investment Trust (NYSE:FRT) which was down 3.79% to 127.53 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Pioneer Pow (NASDAQ:PPSI) which rose 194.15% to 9.560, TDH Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:PETZ) which was up 76.55% to settle at 6.850 and CBAK Energy Technology Inc (NASDAQ:CBAT) which gained 55.12% to close at 3.335.
The worst performers were CN Energy Group Inc (NASDAQ:CNEY) which was down 56.13% to 5.080 in late trade, eHealth Inc (NASDAQ:EHTH) which lost 25.17% to settle at 30.23 and Ontrak Inc (NASDAQ:OTRK) which was down 23.14% to 9.00 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1746 to 1491 and 125 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1990 rose and 1673 declined, while 161 ended unchanged.
Shares in Coty Inc (NYSE:COTY) rose to 52-week highs; rising 13.94% or 1.295 to 10.585. Shares in Advanced Micro Devices Inc (NASDAQ:AMD) rose to all time highs; rising 11.05% or 15.07 to 151.41. Shares in UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH) rose to all time highs; up 1.67% or 7.60 to 463.41. Shares in TDH Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:PETZ) rose to 3-years highs; rising 76.55% or 2.970 to 6.850. Shares in eHealth Inc (NASDAQ:EHTH) fell to 3-years lows; falling 25.17% or 10.17 to 30.23.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 4.19% to 17.17.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.59% or 10.70 to $1827.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 1.03% or 0.84 to hit $82.11 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 1.05% or 0.87 to trade at $83.61 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.19% to 1.1588, while USD/JPY fell 0.12% to 113.26.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.29% at 94.040.
