WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States and China are close to finalizing some sections of a trade agreement after a phone call between top negotiators, the U.S. Trade Representative's office said on Friday.

"They made headway on specific issues and the two sides are close to finalizing some sections of the agreement," USTR said after a phone call on the initial phase of the agreement between Chinese Vice Premier Liu He, U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin.

"Discussions will go on continuously at the deputy level, and the principals will have another call in the near future."

Encouraging, but no consensus on anything yet.
Sure, if you can believe what they say. The authors are just misrepresenting what is actually going on, so the readers are left to ponder the past history of reporting versus actual. --- Probably it's like: US is 'finalizing their points on THEIR side' while China is not being ready, willing or capable of agreeing to the US's deal the way the US 'finalized' it from the US's view.  -- Unfortunately, the weight of interpretation of the heading here lies in the words "trade deal with China". What the US is doing is working on their interpretation and the last section of the heading is just meant to identify which trade deal the authors are talking about. The heading is not suggesting that the "with China" constitutes any agreement by China. --- The quality of writers used by Reuters seems to be beginners who practice on us for feedback.
another line of BS without any details. perhaps they agreed on the placements of the flags for the next meeting. I don't trust anything this administration says anymore
Lol!“Hey, Robert. where should I put this vase? I got this nice antique in Beijing!”“I was actually thinking about bringing mine and Mike’s over when we vacation there. I’ll send you some photos.”“Ok.”
