Meanwhile, EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) added 4.17% or 49.00 points to end at 1225.00 and Dixons Carphone PLC (LON:DC) was up 3.80% or 5.05 points to 138.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Old Mutual Ltd (LON:OMU), which fell 4.81% or 5.48 points to trade at 108.36 at the close. Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) declined 3.63% or 73.30 points to end at 1943.20 and Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) was down 1.77% or 28.00 points to 1556.50.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1181 to 838 and 356 ended unchanged.
Gold Futures for April delivery was down 1.03% or 13.45 to $1295.85 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 0.45% or 0.26 to hit $58.52 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.37% or 0.25 to trade at $67.30 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.50% to 1.3271, while EUR/GBP rose 0.31% to 0.8515.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.23% at 96.738.
