Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Tobacco, Food & Drug Retailers and Fixed Line Telecommunications sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.37%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Smurfit WestRock PLC (LON:SWR), which rose 8.31% or 333.00 points to trade at 4,340.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Coca Cola HBC AG (LON:CCH) added 7.41% or 220.00 points to end at 3,190.00 and Mondi PLC (LON:MNDI) was up 5.20% or 65.00 points to 1,315.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS), which fell 8.81% or 299.00 points to trade at 3,095.00 at the close. Unilever PLC (LON:ULVR) declined 5.64% or 268.00 points to end at 4,483.00 and Barclays PLC (LON:BARC) was down 4.71% or 14.50 points to 293.25.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1074 to 687 and 629 ended unchanged.
Shares in Coca Cola HBC AG (LON:CCH) rose to all time highs; gaining 7.41% or 220.00 to 3,190.00.
Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.56% or 16.39 to $2,945.09 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.06% or 0.04 to hit $71.33 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.19% or 0.14 to trade at $75.04 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.66% to 1.25, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.18% to 0.83.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.53% at 107.25.
