Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Mobile Telecommunications and Software & Computer Services sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.37%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR), which rose 5.44% or 46.40 points to trade at 900.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Mediclinic International PLC (LON:MDCM) added 3.13% or 18.80 points to end at 619.00 and Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) was up 1.49% or 15.00 points to 1022.50 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Provident Financial (LON:PFG), which fell 13.06% or 105.00 points to trade at 699.00 at the close. Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY) declined 9.30% or 166.00 points to end at 1619.00 and Informa Plc (LON:INF) was down 5.67% or 42.40 points to 705.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1182 to 828 and 145 ended unchanged.
Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.17% or 2.30 to $1334.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.28% or 0.18 to hit $63.91 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.19% or 0.13 to trade at $69.28 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.26% to 1.3829, while EUR/GBP fell 0.48% to 0.8845.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.13% at 90.35.
