Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Tobacco, Pharmaceuticals & Biotech and Food Producers sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.60% to hit a new 1-month high.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS), which rose 3.58% or 110.00 points to trade at 3,187.00 at the close. Meanwhile, B&M European Value Retail SA (LON:BMEB) added 2.50% or 8.40 points to end at 344.30 and GSK plc (LON:GSK) was up 2.35% or 32.00 points to 1,394.50 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which fell 3.59% or 77.00 points to trade at 2,066.00 at the close. Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON) declined 2.15% or 10.20 points to end at 465.40 and Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) was down 1.89% or 35.00 points to 1,821.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1096 to 671 and 583 ended unchanged.
Gold Futures for June delivery was down 1.28% or 41.36 to $3,185.24 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 1.46% or 0.90 to hit $62.52 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 1.29% or 0.83 to trade at $65.36 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.39% to 1.33, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.08% to 0.84.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.34% at 101.07.
