Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Mining, Mobile Telecommunications and Tobacco sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.16% to hit a new 1-month high.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ), which rose 3.17% or 17.20 points to trade at 560.00 at the close. Meanwhile, International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG) added 2.63% or 8.50 points to end at 331.60 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) was up 2.60% or 26.00 points to 1,026.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were BP PLC (LON:BP), which fell 1.96% or 7.30 points to trade at 365.50 at the close. Spirax-Sarco Engineering PLC (LON:SPX) declined 1.89% or 115.00 points to end at 5,980.00 and JD Sports Fashion PLC (LON:JD) was down 1.62% or 1.50 points to 91.24.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 875 to 861 and 614 ended unchanged.
Gold Futures for June delivery was up 1.41% or 44.91 to $3,232.21 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 1.18% or 0.73 to hit $62.70 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.92% or 0.60 to trade at $66.01 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.60% to 1.34, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.04% to 0.84.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.66% at 100.28.
