Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Mining and Pharmaceuticals & Biotech sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 2.48% to hit a new 1-month low.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LON:MKS), which rose 1.93% or 6.70 points to trade at 353.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV) added 1.40% or 8.00 points to end at 580.00 and Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN) was up 0.95% or 21.00 points to 2242.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were BHP Billiton PLC (LON:BLT), which fell 5.59% or 71.00 points to trade at 1198.00 at the close. Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) declined 5.58% or 17.25 points to end at 291.80 and Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) was down 5.13% or 60.00 points to 1110.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1373 to 609 and 427 ended unchanged.
Shares in Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN) rose to all time highs; up 0.95% or 21.00 to 2242.00.
Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.07% or 0.90 to $1291.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.65% or 0.34 to hit $52.31 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 1.01% or 0.56 to trade at $54.80 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 1.55% to 1.2761, while EUR/GBP fell 1.00% to 0.8384.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.50% at 99.70.
