Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Tobacco, Industrial Metals & Mining and Beverage sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 1.51%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR), which rose 4.81% or 32.00 points to trade at 701.44 at the close. Meanwhile, Hargreaves Lansdown PLC (LON:HRGV) added 4.22% or 54.00 points to end at 1334.00 and EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) was up 3.71% or 38.000 points to 1061.000 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS), which fell 4.03% or 192.00 points to trade at 4570.50 at the close. Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) declined 3.24% or 138.00 points to end at 4125.00 and Intertek Group PLC (LON:ITRK) was down 3.14% or 112.00 points to 3451.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1206 to 713 and 420 ended unchanged.
Gold for February delivery was up 1.38% or 16.55 to $1212.75 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.61% or 0.32 to hit $52.69 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.02% or 0.01 to trade at $55.87 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 2.81% to 1.2387, while EUR/GBP fell 1.89% to 0.8635.
The US Dollar Index was down 1.07% at 100.44.
