Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Healthcare Equipment & Services, Tobacco and Gas, Water & Multiutilities sectors led shares lower.

At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.96%.

The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO), which rose 11.46% or 73.50 points to trade at 715.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Prudential PLC (LON:PRU) added 7.40% or 105.50 points to end at 1531.00 and Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) was up 5.46% or 14.75 points to 285.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Mediclinic International PLC (LON:MDCM), which fell 15.65% or 144.00 points to trade at 776.00 at the close. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) declined 11.01% or 195.00 points to end at 1576.00 and Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS) was down 10.26% or 730.00 points to 6385.00.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1398 to 968 and 378 ended unchanged.

Shares in Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) rose to 52-week highs; rising 11.46% or 73.50 to 715.00. Shares in Mediclinic International PLC (LON:MDCM) fell to 52-week lows; down 15.65% or 144.00 to 776.00. Shares in Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) rose to 52-week highs; rising 5.46% or 14.75 to 285.00.

Gold for December delivery was down 0.79% or 10.05 to $1263.45 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 1.41% or 0.64 to hit $44.63 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 1.21% or 0.56 to trade at $45.80 a barrel.

GBP/USD was up 0.97% to 1.2527, while EUR/GBP fell 1.23% to 0.8686.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.20% at 98.86.
