Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Mobile Telecommunications, Oil & Gas Producers and Pharmaceuticals & Biotech sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.55%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Sports Direct International PLC (LON:SPD), which rose 6.16% or 18.300 points to trade at 315.600 at the close. Meanwhile, GKN PLC (LON:GKN) added 4.79% or 14.90 points to end at 325.90 and Taylor Wimpey PLC (LON:TW) was up 2.67% or 4.30 points to 165.60 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK), which fell 2.90% or 62.00 points to trade at 2078.00 at the close. Vodafone Group PLC (LON:VOD) declined 2.83% or 6.50 points to end at 223.35 and GlaxoSmithKline PLC (LON:GSK) was down 2.41% or 39.5 points to 1599.5.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1179 to 976 and 427 ended unchanged.
Shares in GKN PLC (LON:GKN) rose to 52-week highs; up 4.79% or 14.90 to 325.90.
Gold for December delivery was up 0.41% or 5.35 to $1316.75 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 2.75% or 1.23 to hit $43.47 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 2.50% or 1.17 to trade at $45.72 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 1.01% to 1.3273, while EUR/GBP fell 0.68% to 0.8435.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.35% at 95.67.
