Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Pharmaceuticals & Biotech, Banking and Software & Computer Services sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.54%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which rose 4.76% or 78.00 points to trade at 1718.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Royal Dutch Shell PLC B (LON:RDSb) added 3.97% or 84.00 points to end at 2199.00 and Royal Dutch Shell PLC (LON:RDSa) was up 3.75% or 76.50 points to 2115.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN), which fell 5.42% or 38.600 points to trade at 673.300 at the close. BP PLC (LON:BP) declined 4.48% or 21.65 points to end at 462.05 and Shire PLC (LON:SHP) was down 2.63% or 122.50 points to 4527.50.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1395 to 844 and 427 ended unchanged.
Gold for December delivery was up 1.35% or 17.15 to $1290.25 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.75% or 0.35 to hit $46.51 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.91% or 0.44 to trade at $48.17 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.07% to 1.2248, while EUR/GBP rose 0.77% to 0.9033.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.62% at 97.71.
