Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Food Producers, General Retailers and Life Insurance/Assurance sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.52%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN), which rose 2.14% or 6.45 points to trade at 307.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) added 1.54% or 16.50 points to end at 1084.50 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) was up 1.19% or 17.00 points to 1447.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Pearson PLC (LON:PSON), which fell 5.14% or 35.50 points to trade at 655.00 at the close. Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LON:MKS) declined 4.69% or 15.90 points to end at 323.10 and Associated British Foods PLC (LON:ABF) was down 4.08% or 121.00 points to 2845.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1224 to 681 and 452 ended unchanged.
Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.13% or 1.57 to $1214.77 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 1.96% or 0.87 to hit $45.27 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 1.88% or 0.88 to trade at $47.76 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.29% to 1.2844, while EUR/GBP rose 0.60% to 0.8903.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.11% at 95.70.
