Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Oil & Gas Producers, Beverage and Gas, Water & Multiutilities sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.48% to hit a new 1-month low.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were J Sainsbury PLC (LON:SBRY), which rose 5.03% or 12.80 points to trade at 267.40 at the close. Meanwhile, EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) added 4.98% or 53.00 points to end at 1117.00 and Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC (LON:RBS) was up 4.89% or 11.00 points to 235.70 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY), which fell 7.94% or 135.00 points to trade at 1566.00 at the close. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) declined 2.95% or 47.00 points to end at 1545.00 and Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS) was down 2.92% or 215.00 points to 7155.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 998 to 932 and 466 ended unchanged.
Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.94% or 12.10 to $1282.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 1.62% or 0.85 to hit $51.56 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 1.71% or 0.94 to trade at $53.95 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.37% to 1.2795, while EUR/GBP rose 0.23% to 0.8374.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.27% at 99.68.
