Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Insurance, Mining and Healthcare Equipment & Services sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.48%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV), which rose 1.47% or 6.500 points to trade at 448.200 at the close. Meanwhile, CRH PLC (LON:CRH) added 0.92% or 23.00 points to end at 2535.00 and Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB) was up 0.85% or 34.00 points to 4035.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Admiral Group PLC (LON:ADML), which fell 7.67% or 173.00 points to trade at 2081.00 at the close. London Stock Exchange Group PLC (LON:LSE) declined 2.92% or 84.00 points to end at 2797.00 and Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) was down 2.87% or 16.00 points to 542.50.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1394 to 681 and 480 ended unchanged.
Shares in CRH PLC (LON:CRH) rose to 5-year highs; gaining 0.92% or 23.00 to 2535.00.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.46% or 6.25 to $1350.65 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.47% or 0.22 to hit $46.36 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.45% or 0.22 to trade at $49.45 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.34% to 1.3003, while EUR/GBP rose 0.20% to 0.8662.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.15% at 94.89.
