Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Financial Services, Oil & Gas Producers and Fixed Line Telecommunications sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.36%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Capita PLC (LON:CPI), which rose 3.80% or 25.50 points to trade at 696.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB) added 3.40% or 131.00 points to end at 3984.00 and Centrica PLC (LON:CNA) was up 2.13% or 4.30 points to 206.40 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Provident Financial (LON:PFG), which fell 17.59% or 504.00 points to trade at 2361.00 at the close. Hargreaves Lansdown PLC (LON:HRGV) declined 2.42% or 33.00 points to end at 1329.00 and Travis Perkins PLC (LON:TPK) was down 2.39% or 36.00 points to 1469.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1273 to 666 and 439 ended unchanged.
Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.20% or 2.45 to $1245.95 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.71% or 0.31 to hit $43.20 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.87% or 0.40 to trade at $45.62 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.25% to 1.2661, while EUR/GBP fell 0.16% to 0.8802.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.04% at 97.36.
