Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Industrial Transportation and Life Insurance/Assurance sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 3.73% to hit a new 1-month high.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which rose 9.52% or 138.00 points to trade at 1587.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Weir Group PLC (LON:WEIR) added 9.03% or 116.00 points to end at 1400.00 and Taylor Wimpey PLC (LON:TW) was up 8.93% or 10.90 points to 132.90 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Tui AG (LON:TUIT), which fell 3.81% or 33.50 points to trade at 844.50 at the close. Dixons Carphone PLC (LON:DC) declined 1.93% or 6.60 points to end at 335.40 and International Consolidated Airlines Group SA (LON:ICAG) was up 0.59% or 2.10 points to 359.30.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1840 to 386 and 352 ended unchanged.

Gold for August delivery was up 0.82% or 10.75 to $1328.65 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 2.78% or 1.33 to hit $49.18 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 2.78% or 1.37 to trade at $50.63 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 1.12% to 1.3496, while EUR/GBP fell 0.71% to 0.8234.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.47% at 95.74.
