Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Aerospace & Defense, Automobiles & Parts and Construction & Materials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 1.26% to hit a new 52-week high.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Provident Financial (LON:PFG), which rose 6.68% or 208.00 points to trade at 3320.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Intertek Group PLC (LON:ITRK) added 5.22% or 185.00 points to end at 3727.00 and Pearson PLC (LON:PSON) was up 5.18% or 39.50 points to 802.50 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS), which fell 5.91% or 460.00 points to trade at 7330.00 at the close. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) declined 5.64% or 103.00 points to end at 1724.00 and EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) was down 1.59% or 16.000 points to 990.000.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1561 to 868 and 377 ended unchanged.

Gold for December delivery was down 2.65% or 34.85 to $1277.85 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.18% or 0.09 to hit $48.90 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.45% or 0.23 to trade at $51.12 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.76% to 1.2739, while EUR/GBP rose 0.52% to 0.8779.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.54% at 96.17.
