Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Chemicals and General Industrial sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 1.04% to hit a new 6-months high.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which rose 7.06% or 116.00 points to trade at 1760.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN) added 6.43% or 93.00 points to end at 1540.00 and Tui AG (LON:TUIT) was up 6.05% or 51.50 points to 903.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Sage Group PLC (LON:SGE), which fell 3.18% or 20.50 points to trade at 625.00 at the close. Sports Direct International PLC (LON:SPD) declined 2.72% or 8.700 points to end at 310.800 and Travis Perkins PLC (LON:TPK) was down 1.43% or 21.00 points to 1453.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1616 to 540 and 409 ended unchanged.
Shares in Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) rose to 3-years highs; rising 7.06% or 116.00 to 1760.00.
Gold for August delivery was up 1.39% or 18.30 to $1338.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.02% or 0.01 to hit $48.34 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.04% or 0.02 to trade at $49.73 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.35% to 1.3264, while EUR/GBP rose 0.79% to 0.8400.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.26% at 95.70.
