Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Mining and Forestry & Paper sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.40%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO), which rose 3.61% or 26.00 points to trade at 747.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY) added 3.20% or 51.000 points to end at 1644.000 and Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO) was up 2.52% or 86.000 points to 3496.500 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Pearson PLC (LON:PSON), which fell 28.90% or 233.50 points to trade at 598.70 at the close. Capita PLC (LON:CPI) declined 2.51% or 13.00 points to end at 504.50 and Experian PLC (LON:EXPN) was down 1.90% or 30.00 points to 1547.12.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 964 to 944 and 413 ended unchanged.

Gold for February delivery was up 0.05% or 0.65 to $1213.55 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 1.24% or 0.65 to hit $51.83 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 1.21% or 0.67 to trade at $54.80 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.84% to 1.2306, while EUR/GBP rose 0.58% to 0.8679.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.48% at 100.74.
