Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Banking and Household Goods & Home Construction sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.39% to hit a new 1-month high.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Unilever PLC (LON:ULVR), which rose 5.70% or 204.50 points to trade at 3791.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Capita PLC (LON:CPI) added 4.59% or 24.50 points to end at 558.50 and Lloyds Banking Group PLC (LON:LLOY) was up 4.39% or 2.93 points to 69.70 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which fell 3.07% or 41.50 points to trade at 1309.00 at the close. InterContinental Hotels Group PLC (LON:IHG) declined 2.81% or 109.00 points to end at 3770.00 and BHP Billiton PLC (LON:BLT) was down 2.70% or 38.00 points to 1367.50.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1053 to 819 and 488 ended unchanged.
Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.46% or 5.75 to $1233.15 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 1.44% or 0.78 to hit $53.55 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 1.48% or 0.84 to trade at $55.82 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.23% to 1.2442, while EUR/GBP rose 0.46% to 0.8488.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.09% at 101.36.
