Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Tobacco, Mining and Software & Computer Services sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.35% to hit a new all time high.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN), which rose 3.59% or 10.35 points to trade at 297.14 at the close. Meanwhile, Imperial Brands PLC (LON:IMB) added 2.23% or 79.00 points to end at 3617.50 and Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS) was up 2.23% or 145.00 points to 6660.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Capita PLC (LON:CPI), which fell 2.72% or 14.00 points to trade at 501.50 at the close. Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC (LON:RBS) declined 2.19% or 5.100 points to end at 227.285 and Land Securities Group PLC (LON:LAND) was down 2.08% or 22.00 points to 1035.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1011 to 963 and 431 ended unchanged.
Gold for February delivery was up 0.86% or 10.05 to $1183.45 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 3.04% or 1.64 to hit $52.35 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 2.99% or 1.71 to trade at $55.39 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.98% to 1.2163, while EUR/GBP rose 1.40% to 0.8695.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.24% at 101.92.
