Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Aerospace & Defense, Industrial Engineering and Banking sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.19% to hit a new all time high.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were BAE Systems PLC (LON:BAES), which rose 2.98% or 17.500 points to trade at 605.062 at the close. Meanwhile, Lloyds Banking Group PLC (LON:LLOY) added 2.12% or 1.37 points to end at 66.03 and Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY) was up 1.72% or 25.000 points to 1475.000 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which fell 3.36% or 47.00 points to trade at 1350.00 at the close. Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS) declined 2.83% or 190.00 points to end at 6515.00 and Babcock International Group PLC (LON:BAB) was down 1.78% or 17.00 points to 937.50.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 968 to 795 and 491 ended unchanged.
Gold for February delivery was down 0.67% or 7.95 to $1173.35 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.60% or 0.32 to hit $54.08 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.47% or 0.27 to trade at $57.16 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.86% to 1.2311, while EUR/GBP rose 0.32% to 0.8568.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.65% at 102.05.
