Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Mobile Telecommunications, General Industrial and Food Producers sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.09% to hit a new all time high.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN), which rose 7.18% or 130.00 points to trade at 1940.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) added 6.39% or 84.00 points to end at 1398.00 and Taylor Wimpey PLC (LON:TW) was up 4.96% or 8.00 points to 169.40 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Standard Life PLC (LON:SL), which fell 3.94% or 14.900 points to trade at 363.400 at the close. Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) declined 3.90% or 26.00 points to end at 641.50 and Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO) was down 3.11% or 6.40 points to 199.15.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1087 to 802 and 445 ended unchanged.
Gold for February delivery was up 1.52% or 17.70 to $1183.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.34% or 0.18 to hit $53.08 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.27% or 0.15 to trade at $56.31 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.79% to 1.2418, while EUR/GBP rose 0.28% to 0.8535.
The US Dollar Index was down 1.02% at 101.44.
