Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Household Goods & Home Construction, Forestry & Paper and Tobacco sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.09% to hit a new 1-month high.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK), which rose 3.85% or 69.00 points to trade at 1861.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Reckitt Benckiser Group PLC (LON:RB) added 2.72% or 180.00 points to end at 6794.00 and Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS) was up 2.33% or 130.00 points to 5705.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT), which fell 4.78% or 77.00 points to trade at 1534.00 at the close. Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN) declined 2.82% or 19.300 points to end at 665.700 and Barclays PLC (LON:BARC) was down 2.67% or 6.10 points to 222.05.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1024 to 898 and 446 ended unchanged.
Gold for February delivery was up 0.39% or 4.45 to $1141.85 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.21% or 0.11 to hit $53.06 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.24% or 0.13 to trade at $55.08 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.64% to 1.2412, while EUR/GBP rose 0.56% to 0.8413.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.16% at 102.76.
