Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Tobacco, General Retailers and Travel & Leisure sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.09%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG), which rose 5.92% or 24.50 points to trade at 438.00 at the close. Meanwhile, J Sainsbury PLC (LON:SBRY) added 4.10% or 10.000 points to end at 254.000 and Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV) was up 4.06% or 17.800 points to 456.700 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Shire PLC (LON:SHP), which fell 3.40% or 168.50 points to trade at 4781.50 at the close. Intu Properties PLC (LON:INTUP) declined 1.92% or 5.40 points to end at 276.00 and Prudential PLC (LON:PRU) was down 1.90% or 26.50 points to 1369.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1198 to 1040 and 463 ended unchanged.
Gold for December delivery was up 0.15% or 1.85 to $1271.35 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.97% or 0.48 to hit $49.24 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.87% or 0.44 to trade at $50.03 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.05% to 1.2157, while EUR/GBP rose 0.48% to 0.9002.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.27% at 98.65.
