Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrial Transportation, Oil & Gas Producers and Mining sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 added 0.15%.
The best performers of the session on the FTSE 100 were Royal Mail (LONDON:RMG), which rose 2.85% or 14.50 points to trade at 524.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Carnival (LONDON:CCL) added 2.64% or 86.00 points to end at 3344.00 and WM Morrison Supermarkets PLC (LONDON:MRW) was up 2.61% or 4.70 points to 184.50 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Sage Group (LONDON:SGE), which fell 6.01% or 33.00 points to trade at 516.00 at the close. Taylor Wimpey Plc (LONDON:TW) declined 2.37% or 4.60 points to end at 189.40 and Barratt Developments Plc (LONDON:BDEV) was down 2.29% or 14.50 points to 618.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1492 to 1084 and 452 ended unchanged.
Gold for August delivery was down 0.31% or 3.70 to $1172.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 1.39% or 0.85 to hit $60.16 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 1.68% or 1.08 to trade at $63.37 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.34% to 1.5676, while EUR/GBP rose 0.37% to 0.7126.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.11% at 95.72.
