Investing.com -- In April, Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA)’s new car sales in the United Kingdom (TADAWUL:4280) dropped by 62% year-on-year, hitting their lowest point in over two years, according to data released by New AutoMotive on Tuesday.
The automaker sold only 536 new vehicles in April, a significant decrease from the 1,404 sold in the same month of 2024.
Meanwhile, the registration of battery-electric cars in the U.K. rose by 6.9% in April, a slower growth rate than the previous month due to broader economic conditions, according to New AutoMotive.
According to national data released last week, sales of Tesla electric vehicles also fell to multi-year lows in several key European markets last month.
In contrast to Tesla’s sales decline, Volkswagen AG (OTC:VWAGY) ’s (ETR:VOWG) battery-electric sales in the U.K. surged 194% to 2,314 vehicles last month.
Additionally, registrations of China’s BYD Co (SZ:002594) Ltd-H (HK:1211) vehicles saw a 311% increase, with 1,419 cars registered.
