Tesla CEO Elon Musk tweets that 'coronavirus panic is dumb'

(Reuters) - Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) Inc's Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk tweeted on Friday that the coronavirus "panic" was "dumb".

The number of people infected with coronavirus surpassed 100,000 across the world on Friday. The outbreak has killed more than 3,400 people and spread across more than 90 nations, with six countries reporting their first cases.

Stock markets have plunged and concerns have led to shortages of face masks, disinfectant and other items. Companies across the world are changing the way they work, asking and requiring employees to work from home, for instance, and stopping corporate travel.

Tesla stock is down more than 20% since the news of the virus outbreak triggered a broader sell-off in the stock market around mid February.

Billionaire Musk, with more than 30 million followers, has a history of being outspoken on his Twitter account, one of corporate America's most-watched.

I don't understand your point. Flu deathrate 0,1%, Covid19 2%, That's a fact. Flu killed more, but from much much more ppl. The problem of Covid19 comes from,1. that 20% of the infected needs hospital-care, because the Pneumonia it causes. Now count, how many free beds are in the hospitals near use + that are isolated from those poor Ppl, how has serious healthissues or waiting to be operated. It would be rediculous to die, or just suffer badly because you cannot get treated in a hospital, because they are all already full. And 2. so many ppl will need to keep of work, not to spread the virus for like 2-3 weeks. With the Flu most of the ppl. just keep working during the time they being infected. So it is not deadly as Ebola, but far from a "harmless Flu".
Why does it effect only the common folk? You never hear of it hitting the White House or people of position are they exempt?

Corona has a death rate of at least 5%. Seasonal flu is .1%. You can get a vaccine and sleep off a flu, corona is a very severe case of pnemounia that can cause permanent lung damage and is worse the second time you get it. Yes thats right, you can get corona more than once. Tests dont show up for weeks and most of them are inconclusive and need to be retested multiple times. Reports are wuhan has been operating morgues 24/7 every day since this thing started, and that china shipped in commercial incinerators, 40 of them to be exact. Governments around the world are lying about the official numbers of those infected and have died to try and safe the global economy. It's too late though no matter how hard people kick and scream the bubble has popped this thing is going down. As for Elon its very easy to make such judgements as a multi billionaire from your multi million dollar mansion, this isn't a threat for him. For the rest of it is as we dont have access to a billionaires resources.

The death rate worldwide is 2% due to poor healthcare in other countries. It's .01% in America. The coronavirus will not have a 3% death rate with our advanced health care system

That panic is indeed not medically justified and from my point of view is beeing part of the show of the media. I am MD MPH and i totally agree with that "car salesman". This is just another Flu wiht a bit more contagious potential and the fact that we have no vaccine against the virus.
