Investing.com - A decade after the Great Recession, millennials remain spooked by the world of investing and are not investing in stocks.
That's the conclusion of Bank of the West's 2018 Millennial study.
The survey shows 65% of millennials said the financial crisis made them a more conservative investor.
A slightly higher number, 66%, said they prefer keeping their money out of the stock market.
As a result, only 40% of millennials have opened workplace retirement accounts, such as 401(k)s or 403(b)s, while just 23% have an IRA or Roth IRA account.
Instead, a majority of millennials, 56%, think real estate should be the "cornerstone of their investment portfolio."
