Spain stocks lower at close of trade; IBEX 35 down 1.75%

Investing.com – Spain stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Financial Services & Real Estate, Telecoms & IT and Consumer Services sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Madrid, the IBEX 35 fell 1.75%.

The best performers of the session on the IBEX 35 were Mediaset ESP (MC:TL5), which rose 0.32% or 0.031 points to trade at 9.611 at the close. Meanwhile, Abertis Infr (MC:ABE) unchanged 0.00% or 0.000 points to end at 13.430 and FCC (MC:FCC) was unchanged 0.00% or 0.000 points to 7.590 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Int.Airl.Grp (MC:ICAG), which fell 7.47% or 0.333 points to trade at 4.123 at the close. Banco Popular (MC:POP) declined 4.36% or 0.052 points to end at 1.140 and Bankia (MC:BKIA) was down 3.80% or 0.024 points to 0.607.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Madrid Stock Exchange by 161 to 23 and 20 ended unchanged.

Shares in Banco Popular (MC:POP) fell to all time lows; falling 4.36% or 0.052 to 1.140.

Gold for August delivery was up 0.64% or 8.75 to $1367.45 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 1.05% or 0.49 to hit $47.09 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.79% or 0.38 to trade at $48.34 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.11% to 1.1088, while EUR/GBP rose 0.76% to 0.8569.

The US Dollar Index was down 0.05% at 96.22.
