Investing.com – Spain stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic, Building & Construction and Consumer Services sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Madrid, the IBEX 35 lost 0.33%.
The best performers of the session on the IBEX 35 were Grifols SA (MC:GRLS), which rose 2.94% or 0.560 points to trade at 19.600 at the close. Meanwhile, Melia Hotels (MC:MEL) added 2.21% or 0.245 points to end at 11.320 and Banco Popular (MC:POP) was up 1.03% or 0.010 points to 0.984 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Red Electrica Corporacion SA (MC:REE), which fell 2.11% or 0.370 points to trade at 17.200 at the close. ACS Const. (MC:ACS) declined 1.47% or 0.450 points to end at 30.260 and Indra A (MC:IDR) was down 1.46% or 0.155 points to 10.455.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Madrid Stock Exchange by 93 to 70 and 22 ended unchanged.
Gold for February delivery was up 0.44% or 5.15 to $1167.15 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 1.51% or 0.79 to hit $53.12 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 1.48% or 0.82 to trade at $56.29 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.69% to 1.0478, while EUR/GBP fell 0.01% to 0.8502.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.67% at 102.55.
