Investing.com – Netherlands stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Healthcare and Financials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Amsterdam, the AEX fell 0.72%.
The best performers of the session on the AEX were Randstad (AS:RAND), which rose 0.66% or 0.36 points to trade at 54.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Akzo Nobel (AS:AKZO) added 0.59% or 0.35 points to end at 59.66 and KPN Kon (AS:KPN) was up 0.18% or 0.005 points to 2.813 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were ArcelorMittal SA (AS:ISPA), which fell 3.40% or 0.262 points to trade at 7.453 at the close. Galapagos NV (AS:GLPG) declined 2.79% or 1.840 points to end at 64.010 and DSM Kon (AS:DSMN) was down 2.21% or 1.29 points to 57.20.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange by 88 to 39 and 9 ended unchanged.
Shares in Randstad (AS:RAND) rose to 52-week highs; rising 0.66% or 0.36 to 54.50.
The AEX Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of AEX options, was down 1.86% to 14.01.
Crude oil for February delivery was up 1.47% or 0.77 to $53.02 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in March rose 1.81% or 1.00 to hit $56.10 a barrel, while the February Gold contract rose 0.37% or 4.45 to trade at $1201.05 a troy ounce.
EUR/USD was up 0.72% to 1.0659, while EUR/GBP rose 0.74% to 0.8732.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.66% at 101.03.
