NEW YORK (Reuters) - Neil Young has threatened to pull his music from the Spotify (NYSE:SPOT) streaming service in protest of its relationship with podcaster Joe Rogan, who the prolific singer-songwriter accuses of spreading misinformation about COVID-19, according to media reports on Tuesday.

Young, who survived polio as a child, briefly posted a letter on his website addressed to his manager and his record label, Warner Music Group, demanding that Spotify no longer carry his music. The letter was later deleted.

“I want you to let Spotify know immediately TODAY that I want all my music off their platform. ... They can have Rogan or Young. Not both," Young wrote in the letter, according to the Wall Street Journal.

“I am doing this because Spotify is spreading fake information about vaccines - potentially causing death to those who believe the disinformation being spread by them,” the newspaper quoted Young, 76, as writing.

Rogan, 54, is the host of "The Joe Rogan Experience," the top-rated podcast on Spotify, which has exclusive rights to the program.

As of Tuesday, Young's music, including such songs as “Heart Of Gold,” “Rocking In The Free World” and “Old Man," was still available on the service, as was Rogan's podcast.

Spotify, Warner Music Group and "The Joe Rogan Experience" did not immediately respond to requests for comment. A representative for Young could not be reached.

Rogan, who began his career as a stand-up comedian, has long stirred controversy with his views on the pandemic, government mandates and vaccines to control the spread of the coronavirus. He has questioned the need for COVID-19 vaccines on his show and said he used ivermectin, an anti-parasite drug that has no proven benefit against COVID.

In the letter, Young singled out one episode in which a Rogan guest was pushing debunked anti vaccination theories, the Journal reported.

Young's letter noted that Rogan's podcast draws 11 million listeners each episode and highlighted that Spotify lacks a misinformation policy, the newspaper said.

Spotify began carrying Rogan's podcast in September as part of its efforts to transform itself into the Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX) of audio. Rogan maintains full creative control over the show.

Earlier this month, 270 scientists and medical professionals signed an open letter to Spotify to take action against Rogan, accusing him of spreading falsehoods on the podcast.

I Agree with Neil Young. Joe Rogan is a mutt and only cares about $ he has no artisic talent.
Young's call...let them die...keep the ventilators for those who care.
old man take a look at Joe's life, he's a lot like you were.
Breaking news, Neil Young has been removed from spotify! 👏👍
thank you Rogan for getting rid of depressing Neil old.
I once thought of Young and similar folks as true open-thinkers. Turns out most are pro-censorship. You would wish artists didn't feel only their views should be heard, but they are just Facists in a different coat. Young should know better, but maybe Spotify should pull his iconic Ohio song since it is filled with things now known to be false. If Young wants his songs (and opinions) to be unheard thats his choice.
😂😂😂😂
: ) : )
spot on
100%
100% right
Bye Neil
Neil Young, Lawrence Welk about as relative today. Cya Neil! Good Riddance!
It's a shame Neil can't see through the propaganda and still believes the BS from the Lamestream media - polio vaccines are clearly a winner and have been for decades, but these experimental gene therapies are nothing of the sort - they're unsafe, pretty useless as vaccines and just a vast money spinner for the pharma industry, whilst being used for political means to bring in social engineering
Hmmm Neils’s 6M monthly listeners vs. Joe’s 13M+ monthly and growing? Bye Neil.
This is the same guy who said, "Canada is back!", when the Trudeau Liberals came to power in 2015.  Just ask a trucker, or the 67.4% of Canadians who didn't vote for Trudeau in the2021 election, for that matter, if they think "Canada is back".
Goodbye Neil.
goodbye rogan...
we don't need him around anymore
See ya Neil! Loser.
This guys generation is where all this economic & social trouble began. The sixties had some good, but left a lot of sickness.
The hippies lost their way. They use to be against tyrannical government. They use to support free speech. They use to preach love of their fellow man. Brainwashing has steered them into a complete 180 and they don't even realize it.
Not to mention protesting and support of protesting "the establishment" and "the man".  They used to say, "F the establishment, now they say, "you better do what the F'ing establishment says", and ini the process they cancel dissenting voices who question the current "establishment".
Bye Neal.
we will not miss Neil's scratchy whining voice.
A new reality show.... "Temper Tantrums of the Rich and Famous"
🤣🤣🤣🤣
bye bye Neil.....Joe Rogan revenue beats out Neil Young revenue by multiples. Not a smart move Neil; majority of the population doesn't even know who you are anymore.
