Investing.com – Japan stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Transport, Gas & Water and Banking sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 1.13%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Alps Electric Co., Ltd. (T:6770), which rose 10.72% or 219.0 points to trade at 2262.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Advantest Corp. (T:6857) added 9.44% or 115.0 points to end at 1333.0 and NTN Corp. (T:6472) was up 8.74% or 27.0 points to 336.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Fujifilm Holdings Corp. (T:4901), which fell 9.90% or 401.0 points to trade at 3650.0 at the close. Mitsumi Electric Co., Ltd. (T:6767) declined 9.36% or 53.0 points to end at 513.0 and Mitsubishi Electric Corp. (T:6503) was down 8.27% or 106.5 points to 1182.0.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1311 to 634 and 111 ended unchanged.
Shares in Fujifilm Holdings Corp. (T:4901) fell to 52-week lows; losing 9.90% or 401.0 to 3650.0. Shares in Advantest Corp. (T:6857) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 9.44% or 115.0 to 1333.0.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 1.82% to 30.26.
Crude oil for September delivery was down 0.02% or 0.01 to $41.91 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in October fell 0.07% or 0.03 to hit $43.88 a barrel, while the December Gold contract rose 0.94% or 12.60 to trade at $1347.10 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.68% to 104.67, while EUR/JPY fell 0.46% to 116.04.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.24% at 96.52.
