Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic, Transport and Machinery sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.89%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Seven & i Holdings Co., Ltd. (T:3382), which rose 8.58% or 382.0 points to trade at 4832.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Haseko Corp (T:1808) added 3.81% or 48.0 points to end at 1307.5 and Oji Holdings Corp. (T:3861) was up 2.86% or 14.0 points to 504.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd. (T:5713), which fell 4.65% or 73.0 points to trade at 1496.0 at the close. Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (T:7735) declined 4.06% or 285.0 points to end at 6739.9 and Mitsui Mining and Smelting Co. (T:5706) was down 2.30% or 7.0 points to 297.5.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1847 to 1101 and 399 ended unchanged.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 0.85% to 19.93.
Crude oil for February delivery was up 0.08% or 0.04 to $53.05 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in March rose 0.07% or 0.04 to hit $56.05 a barrel, while the February Gold contract fell 0.45% or 5.35 to trade at $1194.45 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.16% to 114.88, while EUR/JPY rose 0.27% to 122.06.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.04% at 101.42.
