Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Paper & Pulp, Railway & Bus and Real Estate sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 2.24%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Yahoo Japan Corp. (T:4689), which rose 17.95% or 100.0 points to trade at 657.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Japan Tobacco Inc (T:2914) added 7.59% or 137.5 points to end at 1949.5 and Alps Electric Co., Ltd. (T:6770) was up 6.65% or 88.0 points to 1411.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Casio Computer Co., Ltd. (T:6952), which fell 9.99% or 167.0 points to trade at 1505.0 at the close. NEC Corp. (T:6701) declined 7.13% or 420.0 points to end at 5470.0 and Shinsei Bank, Ltd. (T:8303) was down 5.56% or 66.0 points to 1122.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2705 to 875 and 114 ended unchanged.
Shares in Yahoo Japan Corp. (T:4689) rose to 5-year highs; gaining 17.95% or 100.0 to 657.0. Shares in Shinsei Bank, Ltd. (T:8303) fell to 3-years lows; down 5.56% or 66.0 to 1122.0.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was unchanged 0% to 25.96.
Crude oil for September delivery was down 1.49% or 0.60 to $39.67 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in October fell 1.24% or 0.54 to hit $42.98 a barrel, while the October Gold Futures contract rose 0.21% or 4.05 to trade at $1977.95 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.03% to 105.92, while EUR/JPY fell 0.14% to 124.56.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.22% at 93.523.
