TSMC Q2 profit soars 61% to record high; sees AI demand offsetting forex headwinds
Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Shipbuilding, Precision Instruments and Insurance sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.56%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were NH Foods Ltd (TYO:2282), which rose 5.46% or 248.00 points to trade at 4,794.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Chugai Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (TYO:4519) added 3.90% or 201.00 points to end at 5,358.00 and Aozora Bank, Ltd. (TYO:8304) was up 2.94% or 74.00 points to 2,588.50 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Mercari Inc (TYO:4385), which fell 4.73% or 95.00 points to trade at 1,915.50 at the close. Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd. (TYO:5713) declined 2.66% or 134.00 points to end at 4,912.00 and Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings Ltd. (TYO:3099) was down 2.11% or 61.50 points to 2,855.50.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2400 to 1215 and 262 ended unchanged.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 2.33% to 16.33.
Crude oil for August delivery was down 0.02% or 0.02 to $80.71 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in September rose 0.01% or 0.01 to hit $84.34 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract rose 0.19% or 4.50 to trade at $2,335.70 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.03% to 159.75, while EUR/JPY rose 0.17% to 171.00.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.05% at 105.39.
