Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Rubber, Transport and Glass sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.34%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were NEC Corp. (TYO:6701), which rose 18.38% or 2,410.00 points to trade at 15,525.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd. (TYO:9531) added 7.04% or 289.00 points to end at 4,392.00 and JTEKT Corp. (TYO:6473) was up 6.39% or 73.50 points to 1,224.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Hino Motors, Ltd. (TYO:7205), which fell 12.24% or 71.10 points to trade at 510.00 at the close. Oriental Land Co Ltd (TYO:4661) declined 5.28% or 195.00 points to end at 3,501.00 and TDK Corp (TYO:6762) was down 3.72% or 73.00 points to 1,888.50.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1970 to 1638 and 260 ended unchanged.
Shares in NEC Corp. (TYO:6701) rose to 5-year highs; gaining 18.38% or 2,410.00 to 15,525.00.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 7.97% to 21.93.
Crude oil for March delivery was up 0.77% or 0.56 to $73.29 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in April rose 0.47% or 0.36 to hit $76.25 a barrel, while the April Gold Futures contract rose 0.00% or 0.01 to trade at $2,845.21 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.29% to 154.63, while EUR/JPY rose 0.26% to 160.78.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.29% at 107.94.
