Investing.com – India stocks were mixed after the close on Friday, as gains in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods, Banking and Power sectors led shares higher while losses in the Consumer Durables, Oil & Gas and IT sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.02%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.10%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were ITC Ltd (NS:ITC), which rose 2.99% or 8.30 points to trade at 286.20 at the close. Meanwhile, Yes Bank Ltd. (NS:YESB) added 2.07% or 28.95 points to end at 1430.10 and AXIS Bank Ltd. (NS:AXBK) was up 1.97% or 9.70 points to 501.70 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN), which fell 2.45% or 28.20 points to trade at 1123.15 at the close. Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) declined 1.74% or 12.45 points to end at 702.45 and Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) was down 1.55% or 3.00 points to 191.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which rose 2.82% to 285.90, Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which was up 2.04% to settle at 1007.55 and AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which gained 1.83% to close at 500.85.
The worst performers were Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which was down 2.43% to 1122.20 in late trade, Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) which lost 1.48% to settle at 399.15 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was down 1.35% to 1333.10 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1067 to 505 and 8 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1741 fell and 931 advanced, while 161 ended unchanged.
Shares in Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) rose to all time highs; gaining 2.04% or 20.15 to 1007.55.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 4.09% to 11.3025.
Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.02% or 0.19 to $1252.61 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 1.13% or 0.56 to hit $49.91 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 1.16% or 0.61 to trade at $53.12 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.45% to 64.615, while EUR/INR rose 0.11% to 72.1351.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.39% at 97.39.
