Investing.com – India stocks were mixed after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods, IT and Technology sectors led shares higher while losses in the Public Sector Undertakings, Green Energy and Oil & Gas sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.26%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.27%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were ITC Ltd (NS:ITC), which rose 2.57% or 9.05 points to trade at 361.40 at the close. Meanwhile, Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC) added 1.96% or 2.35 points to end at 122.05 and ICICI Bank Ltd (NS:ICBK) was up 1.93% or 16.05 points to 847.95 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Adani Enterprises Ltd (NS:ADEL), which fell 26.85% or 798.60 points to trade at 2,175.30 at the close. Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE) declined 17.59% or 107.75 points to end at 504.90 and HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:HDFL) was down 10.91% or 63.15 points to 515.70.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which rose 2.61% to 361.45, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was up 2.01% to settle at 122.05 and ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which gained 1.80% to close at 846.65.
The worst performers were Bajaj Finserv Ltd (BO:BJFS) which was down 5.65% to 1,267.30 in late trade, State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which lost 4.80% to settle at 527.10 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was down 3.88% to 1,041.60 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1386 to 545 and 45 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2197 fell and 1214 advanced, while 102 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.56% to 16.78.
Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.18% or 3.45 to $1,941.85 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.30% or 0.24 to hit $79.11 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.06% or 0.05 to trade at $85.51 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.21% to 81.91, while EUR/INR rose 0.44% to 89.18.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.17% at 101.75.
