Investing.com – India stocks were mixed after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Auto, IT and Consumer Durables sectors led shares higher while losses in the Metals, Oil & Gas and Real Estate sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.12% to hit a new 6-months low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.20%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NSE:MAHM), which rose 2.53% or 68.65 points to trade at 2,777.85 at the close. Meanwhile, Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NSE:BRTI) added 2.50% or 40.10 points to end at 1,641.40 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (NSE:BJFN) was up 1.60% or 133.85 points to 8,488.80 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NSE:HALC), which fell 3.50% or 22.45 points to trade at 619.45 at the close. Dr Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NSE:REDY) declined 3.13% or 36.40 points to end at 1,128.15 and Trent Ltd (NSE:TREN) was down 2.09% or 106.10 points to 4,959.90.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which rose 2.39% to 1,639.05, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was up 2.04% to settle at 2,764.65 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which gained 1.40% to close at 8,472.20.
The worst performers were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was down 1.62% to 1,613.00 in late trade, Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which lost 1.48% to settle at 1,589.25 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was down 1.41% to 255.50 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1424 to 880 and 89 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2157 fell and 1612 advanced, while 125 ended unchanged.
Shares in Dr Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NSE:REDY) fell to 52-week lows; losing 3.13% or 36.40 to 1,128.15. Shares in Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) fell to 52-week lows; down 1.41% or 3.65 to 255.50.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 4.67% to 13.77.
Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.27% or 7.86 to $2,955.34 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 0.13% or 0.09 to hit $70.79 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 0.01% or 0.01 to trade at $74.32 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.55% to 87.14, while EUR/INR rose 0.63% to 91.30.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.07% at 106.58.
