Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Green Energy, Auto and Oil & Gas sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the S&P CNX Nifty fell 0.83%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.75%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P CNX Nifty were Sesa Sterlite Ltd (NSE:SESA), which rose 1.54% or 3.20 points to trade at 211.10 at the close. Meanwhile, TATA STEEL LIMITED (NSE:TISC) added 1.10% or 3.80 points to end at 348.25 and AXIS Bank Ltd. (NSE:AXBK) was up 0.96% or 4.95 points to 523.20 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NSE:SUN), which fell 8.78% or 91.60 points to trade at 952.20 at the close. DLF LIMITED (NSE:DLF) declined 5.03% or 7.35 points to end at 138.90 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NSE:HLL) was down 4.42% or 40.35 points to 873.10.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Sesa Sterlite Ltd (BO:SESA) which rose 1.59% to 211.30, TATA STEEL LIMITED (BO:TISC) which was up 1.06% to settle at 348.00 and AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which gained 1.00% to close at 523.65.
The worst performers were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was down 8.86% to 951.60 in late trade, Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which lost 4.38% to settle at 873.70 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which was down 2.96% to 3499.50 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 802 to 616 and 9 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 362 fell and 221 advanced, while 1 ended unchanged.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of S&P CNX Nifty options, was up 4.49% to 17.0300 a new 1-month high.
Gold for June delivery was up 0.35% or 4.20 to $1197.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.41% or 0.24 to hit $57.64 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.63% or 0.40 to trade at $63.05 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.52% to 62.855, while EUR/INR fell 1.00% to 67.1260.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.37% at 98.52.
