Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Healthcare, Real Estate and Power sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.55%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.67%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (NS:MRTI), which rose 2.64% or 177.15 points to trade at 6878.85 at the close. Meanwhile, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM) added 1.95% or 25.50 points to end at 1331.75 and Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH) was up 1.43% or 388.15 points to 27598.25 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone (NS:APSE), which fell 6.43% or 22.80 points to trade at 331.65 at the close. Aurobindo Pharma Ltd. (NS:ARBN) declined 5.82% or 33.45 points to end at 541.70 and Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) was down 5.31% or 29.90 points to 533.20.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which rose 2.70% to 6880.30, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was up 1.71% to settle at 1329.35 and Wipro Ltd. (BO:WIPR) which gained 1.15% to close at 526.70.
The worst performers were Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone (BO:APSE) which was down 6.19% to 332.05 in late trade, Cipla Ltd. (BO:CIPL) which lost 4.89% to settle at 533.15 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was down 4.33% to 612.55 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1317 to 240 and 11 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2068 fell and 583 advanced, while 148 ended unchanged.
Shares in Aurobindo Pharma Ltd. (NS:ARBN) fell to 52-week lows; losing 5.82% or 33.45 to 541.70.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 8.93% to 12.2025 a new 1-month high.
Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.15% or 1.85 to $1259.55 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.66% or 0.34 to hit $50.79 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.72% or 0.39 to trade at $53.48 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.44% to 64.791, while EUR/INR rose 0.49% to 72.8526.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.06% at 96.82.
