India stocks lower at close of trade; Nifty 50 down 2.16%

Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Metals, IT and Real Estate sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 2.16% to hit a new 6-months low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 2.19%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (NS:HPCL), which rose 16.21% or 29.30 points to trade at 207.95 at the close. Meanwhile, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (NS:IOC) added 5.77% or 7.15 points to end at 131.00 and Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) was up 4.84% or 12.85 points to 278.15 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Indiabulls Housing Finance Ltd (NS:INBF), which fell 9.12% or 89.25 points to trade at 891.70 at the close. Bajaj Finserv Ltd (NS:BJFS) declined 6.20% or 369.50 points to end at 5592.00 and State Bank Of India (NS:SBI) was down 6.08% or 16.95 points to 262.15.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which rose 2.86% to 152.90, Yes Bank Ltd (BO:YESB) which was up 2.54% to settle at 240.00 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which gained 0.75% to close at 1538.50.

The worst performers were State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was down 5.74% to 262.15 in late trade, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which lost 4.60% to settle at 556.25 and Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which was down 4.45% to 208.25 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1149 to 460 and 56 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1708 fell and 795 advanced, while 140 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 14.74% to 20.5475 a new 52-week high.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.30% or 15.50 to $1208.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 1.94% or 1.42 to hit $71.75 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 2.25% or 1.87 to trade at $81.22 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.41% to 74.075, while EUR/INR rose 0.28% to 85.7725.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.40% at 94.84.
