India stocks lower at close of trade; Nifty 50 down 0.89%

Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Banking, Carbon and Auto sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.89%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 1.02%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN), which rose 5.06% or 20.90 points to trade at 434.65 at the close. Meanwhile, Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS:BHRI) added 3.46% or 8.60 points to end at 258.45 and JSW Steel Ltd (NS:JSTL) was up 3.04% or 6.25 points to 211.95 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were State Bank Of India (NS:SBI), which fell 3.30% or 9.40 points to trade at 274.50 at the close. Yes Bank Ltd (NS:YESB) declined 3.36% or 2.00 points to end at 57.40 and Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NS:HDFC) was down 2.63% or 57.45 points to 2128.45.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which rose 5.31% to 434.65, Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which was up 2.72% to settle at 135.80 and NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which gained 2.63% to close at 123.05.

The worst performers were Yes Bank Ltd (BO:YESB) which was down 3.61% to 57.35 in late trade, State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which lost 3.60% to settle at 274.65 and Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which was down 2.69% to 2128.55 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1062 to 496 and 68 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1515 fell and 855 advanced, while 153 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 2.44% to 16.4250.

Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.11% or 1.75 to $1547.35 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.79% or 0.44 to hit $56.22 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.13% or 0.08 to trade at $60.01 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.01% to 71.800, while EUR/INR fell 0.03% to 79.5055.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.09% at 98.213.
